PART 6 – Victor Finally Revealed Why He Had Chased Michael for Seven Years, and the Truth Made the Missing Years Far More Dangerous Than Death

Victor kept the pistol lowered, but nobody in the chapel mistook that for mercy.

Michael stood beside the altar, the trust agreement still hidden against his chest. Elena remained close to him. Mrs. Whitmore had one hand on Daniel's shoulder.

Samuel was nowhere in sight.

He had disappeared through a narrow doorway behind the pews.

Victor noticed.

“Where is he?”

Nobody answered.

Victor glanced at his men.

“Search the chapel.”

One guard moved toward the altar.

Daniel stepped sideways.

The guard stopped.

Victor looked at him.

“Move.”

Daniel did not.

“I said move.”

“You don't need to do this.”

Victor's expression changed slightly.

“You still think this is about money.”

Daniel said nothing.

“It isn't.”

Victor walked closer.

“The resort is worth far less than what lies beneath it.”

Michael stared at him.

“What lies beneath it?”

Victor smiled.

“You really don't know.”

“No.”

Victor's eyes narrowed.

“Your father found something before he died.”

Michael's face hardened.

“What?”

“A record.”

“Of what?”

Victor looked toward the chapel floor.

“The original ownership of the entire coastline.”

Daniel frowned.

Victor continued.

“Not just this resort. The surrounding properties. The marina. The old market. The land where half this town now stands.”

Michael understood.

“The community trust.”

“Yes.”

“You wanted the trust agreement because it proves the land was never yours.”

Victor nodded.

“And because it gives the trustees the right to reclaim everything.”

Elena looked at Michael.

Victor noticed.

“Your father understood that.”

“Then why did he transfer the land?”

“To protect it.”

Victor's smile disappeared.

“He believed he could outlive me.”

“He knew he was dying.”

“He knew too much.”

Michael's jaw tightened.

“Did you kill him?”

Victor was silent.

That silence answered more than words.

Mrs. Whitmore stepped forward.

“You killed my husband?”

Victor looked at her.

“I didn't.”

“Then who did?”

“He died naturally.”

Michael shook his head.

“You threatened him.”

“I warned him.”

“You forged his signature.”

“I corrected his mistake.”

“You destroyed my family.”

Victor's voice hardened.

“No. Your father did.”

Michael stared.

Victor took another step.

“He trusted people he shouldn't have trusted. He believed land belonged to whoever could preserve it. He didn't understand what happens when hundreds of people depend on a property.”

“That doesn't justify what you did.”

Victor laughed once.

“You think justice keeps a business alive?”

“No.”

“Then you understand nothing.”

The chapel doors opened behind them.

Everyone turned.

The night manager walked in.

Elias Grant.

He looked directly at Victor.

“That's enough.”

Victor's expression changed.

“You.”

Elias closed the doors.

“I've been waiting seven years to hear you say that.”

Victor raised the pistol.

Elias did not move.

“Put it down.”

“You're working for the police.”

“No.”

Victor smiled.

“Still pretending.”

Elias looked at Michael.

“Your father left instructions.”

Michael stared.

“For me?”

“Yes.”

“Why didn't you tell me?”

“Because you were watched.”

Michael looked toward Victor.

Elias nodded.

“Every time you contacted someone, he knew.”

Victor interrupted.

“Enough.”

Elias reached into his coat.

The guards raised their weapons.

Elias slowly removed a phone.

“There's a recording.”

Victor went pale.

“Of what?”

“Your conversation with Michael's father.”

Michael stepped closer.

“You recorded him?”

“No.”

“Then who?”

Elias looked at the chapel floor.

“Your father.”

He pressed play.

A man's voice filled the chapel.

Michael recognized it immediately.

His father.

“If you're hearing this, then Victor has forced the issue.”

Mrs. Whitmore covered her mouth.

The recording continued.

“I know he believes the land is his. It isn't. I transferred the property into a trust because the original agreement protects the families who have lived here for generations.”

Victor stepped forward.

“Turn that off.”

Elias ignored him.

The voice continued.

“Michael, if you ever hear this, understand something. I did not betray you. I did not sell the resort. And I never asked you to disappear.”

Michael's eyes filled.

The recording paused.

Then his father's voice returned.

“There is one person you can trust.”

The audio ended.

Everyone waited.

Michael looked at Elias.

“You.”

Elias nodded.

“But there's something else.”

He held out a small envelope.

Michael took it.

Inside was a list of names.

Daniel looked over his shoulder.

Several employees appeared on the page.

Some were still working at the resort.

Others had left.

One name had been circled.

Rosa.

She stared at it.

“No.”

Michael looked at her.

“Why is your name here?”

Rosa shook her head.

“I don't know.”

Elias looked at her.

“You do.”

She stepped backward.

“I never betrayed you.”

“I didn't say you did.”

“Then why?”

Elias pointed to the next page.

“She was paid by Victor.”

Rosa's face went white.

Michael looked at her.

“Is that true?”

Rosa began crying.

“Yes.”

Elena stepped forward.

“Why?”

“My brother.”

Michael stared.

Victor smiled faintly.

Rosa wiped her face.

“Victor threatened him.”

“You worked for him?”

“I had no choice.”

“You knew where Samuel was.”

“I knew where he hid.”

“And you told Victor?”

“No.”

Victor laughed.

“You told me enough.”

Rosa turned toward him.

“You promised my brother would be safe.”

Victor's expression was cold.

“I never promised anything.”

Rosa looked broken.

Michael lowered his voice.

“What did you tell him?”

“Only that you had returned.”

Daniel suddenly remembered the three knocks.

Michael's eyes narrowed.

“The three knocks.”

Rosa nodded.

“I told him because I thought he would come for you.”

Samuel emerged from the hidden doorway.

“He did.”

Everyone turned.

Samuel looked at Rosa.

“I heard.”

Victor raised the pistol.

Samuel moved quickly.

He kicked the weapon from Victor's hand.

One guard lunged.

Elias tackled him.

The second guard ran.

Daniel grabbed Victor before he could reach the pistol.

They struggled.

Victor struck Daniel across the shoulder.

Daniel stumbled.

Michael caught Victor's arm.

Victor turned and punched him.

Michael fell against the pew.

Elena screamed.

Mrs. Whitmore stepped between them.

“Stop!”

Victor froze.

For one moment, nobody moved.

Then sirens sounded outside.

Victor looked toward the chapel doors.

“You called the police.”

Elias nodded.

Victor looked at Michael.

“You think this ends here?”

Michael stood slowly.

“No.”

He picked up the trust agreement.

“It ends when everyone knows what you did.”

Victor smiled.

“You still don't understand.”

“What?”

“The trust agreement isn't complete.”

Michael's expression changed.

Victor pointed toward the document.

“There is a second page.”

Michael unfolded it.

The second page was missing.

Victor laughed.

“I burned it.”

Samuel stepped forward.

“No, you didn't.”

Victor looked at him.

Samuel reached inside his coat.

He produced a folded sheet.

Victor's face drained of color.

“You.”

Samuel held it out.

“Your copy wasn't the only one.”

Michael took the page.

He read it.

His father had named the trustees.

The final name was unexpected.

Michael stared.

“Daniel.”

Daniel blinked.

“What?”

Michael handed him the document.

Daniel read the name.

His own.

“I don't understand.”

Elias spoke quietly.

“Your father chose you because he knew you weren't part of the resort.”

Victor stared at Daniel.

“That isn't possible.”

Daniel looked up.

“I've never met his father.”

“No,” Elias said.

“But your father knew your family.”

Daniel looked confused.

“My family?”

Elias nodded.

“The land your parents owned before you were born was part of the original trust.”

Daniel's breath caught.

Victor stepped backward.

For the first time, fear appeared on his face.

The police sirens grew louder.

Michael looked at Daniel.

“You weren't carrying that mug by accident.”

Daniel remembered the morning.

The white mug.

The elevator.

The key.

Everything had been arranged.

But one question remained.

“Why me?”

Elias looked toward the chapel doors.

“Because your father knew you would eventually come back.”

Daniel stared at him.

“My father is alive?”

Nobody answered.

Then, from somewhere beyond the chapel, a car door slammed.

Michael turned.

Samuel whispered one sentence.

“We're too late.”
