My husband finally confronted his mother.
The conversation happened without me.
But I learned what was said afterward.
His mother cried.
She blamed me.
She blamed his aunt.
She blamed everyone except herself.
But my husband did something he had never done before.
He refused to accept the blame being moved around.
“I hurt my wife because you told me a story,” he said.
His mother responded:
“I’m your mother.”
And he answered:
“She is my wife.”
That sentence should have been normal.
It should not have taken a disaster for him to understand it.
But understanding came late.
The question was whether it came too late.
