PART 7 — The Apology That Came Too Late
Part Note:
This part shows Margaret facing the consequences of her actions and Emily deciding what forgiveness means.
Months later, Margaret requested a meeting.
Emily almost refused.
But she went.
Her mother looked smaller than she remembered.
Older.
Tired.
“I was scared,” Margaret said.
Emily stayed silent.
“I thought I knew what was best.”
“You thought you had the right to decide.”
Margaret lowered her eyes.
“Yes.”
That was the first honest answer Emily had heard from her.
Not an excuse.
Not a justification.
Just an admission.
“I’m sorry,” Margaret whispered.
Emily looked at her.
“I believe you regret it.”
Margaret looked up.
“But?”
“But I still have to protect my daughter.”
Margaret nodded.
For the first time, she accepted a boundary.
