I surprised my 8-year-old son with tickets to his dream football game—but when the kiss cam flashed across the stadium, he grabbed my arm and cried, “MOM… THAT’S DADDY!” I went pale. For almost two years

PART 3

Jerry stared at the note in his tiny hands.

He read the words again.

Then again.

Like his young mind was trying to understand something far too heavy for him.

“Daddy…”

His voice trembled.

“What truth?”

Nobody answered.

Not me.

Not Adam.

Not the woman beside him.

The entire world felt frozen.

Adam slowly reached toward him.

“Jerry, give me the note.”

But my son pulled it closer to his chest.

“No.”

The word came quietly.

But it carried more pain than anger.

“You wrote this for me.”

Adam stopped.

“Yes.”

“Then why didn’t you tell me?”

Adam looked down.

And for the first time, I saw tears forming in his eyes.

Not fake tears.

Not guilt from being caught.

Real tears.

“I wanted to.”

Jerry shook his head.

“But you didn’t.”

The stadium lights reflected off my husband’s face.

A face I thought I knew.

A man I had loved.

A man I had stood beside through the worst years of our lives.

But suddenly, I wondered how much of him I had never truly seen.

The woman beside Adam quietly spoke.

“Maybe we should leave before this gets worse.”

I turned toward her.

“No.”

My voice was firm.

“Nobody leaves.”

She looked surprised.

Adam looked at me.

“Please.”

“No, Adam.”

I pointed at the note.

“Our son deserves the truth.”

Silence.

A few people around us had stopped pretending not to watch.

The story was spreading through the section.

The same giant screen that had accidentally exposed my husband was still above us.

The entire stadium had witnessed the moment.

But I didn’t care.

Not anymore.

Because this wasn’t about embarrassment.

This was about Jerry.

Adam took a deep breath.

Then he looked at our son.

“Jerry…”

He swallowed.

“Do you remember when you were in treatment, and the doctors said we needed to be careful because your immune system was weak?”

Jerry nodded slowly.

“Yeah.”

Adam looked at the glove.

“During that time, I found out something.”

I felt my heart tighten.

“What?”

Adam looked at me.

And the pain in his eyes made me nervous.

“Before Jerry was diagnosed, I was already investigating something.”

“Investigating?”

I frowned.

He nodded.

“My company had financial problems. Money was disappearing. Someone was using my accounts without permission.”

The woman beside him looked down.

And I noticed.

She looked guilty.

“Her name is Rachel,” Adam said.

The woman slowly looked up.

“I was working with Adam.”

I stared at her.

“Working with him?”

She nodded.

“I’m a financial investigator.”

My anger turned into confusion.

“What?”

Adam continued.

“When I left on business trips, I wasn’t meeting her secretly.”

He looked at Jerry.

“I was trying to fix something before it destroyed our family.”

Jerry looked at him.

“Then why did you have my glove?”

Adam closed his eyes.

“Because that’s where I hid the evidence.”

My breath caught.

The glove.

The one Jerry made.

The one that meant everything.

“You used our son’s glove to hide documents?”

Adam immediately shook his head.

“No.”

His voice broke.

“I protected it.”

He looked at Jerry.

“Because nobody would think to look there.”

Rachel nodded.

“The person stealing from Adam knew everything about his work. They knew his office. They knew his safe. They knew his computer.”

She looked at the glove.

“But they didn’t know about Jerry.”

My son looked confused.

“So Daddy kept it?”

Adam nodded.

“Every night.”

A tear rolled down his face.

“I kept it because it was the most important thing I owned.”

Jerry looked away.

“But I thought you gave it away.”

“I know.”

Adam’s voice cracked.

“And that is my fault.”

He reached into his jacket.

“I should have told you.”

Then he pulled out another small piece of paper.

“I wrote that note because I was afraid.”

I stared at him.

“Afraid of what?”

Adam looked at me.

“Afraid that if something happened to me, Jerry would think I abandoned him.”

The words hit me.

Because that was exactly what our son had felt.

Adam looked at Jerry.

“I was never at those games because I didn’t want to be there.”

A pause.

“I was trying to make sure you would have a future.”

Jerry’s eyes filled.

“But you weren’t there.”

Adam nodded.

“I know.”

That simple answer broke the tension.

Because he didn’t defend himself.

He didn’t make excuses.

He admitted it.

“I missed things I can never get back.”

He wiped his eyes.

“And I’m sorry.”

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Then Jerry looked at Rachel.

“Why did you have my glove?”

Rachel hesitated.

Then she answered.

“Because someone tried to steal it.”

Everyone froze.

“What?”

Rachel looked around.

“Your father was supposed to meet me today because we found out who was behind everything.”

Adam’s expression changed.

“Wait…”

Rachel nodded.

“The person who attacked your father’s accounts knew about the glove.”

A cold feeling moved through me.

“Someone knew?”

“Yes.”

She looked at Adam.

“They knew the evidence was hidden inside.”

The stadium suddenly felt much colder.

Because this wasn’t just a misunderstanding.

Someone had planned this.

Someone knew about the glove.

Someone knew about Jerry.

Then Adam’s phone rang.

He looked at the screen.

His face instantly changed.

“What is it?”

Rachel stepped closer.

“Who?”

Adam slowly turned the phone toward us.

A message had been sent.

One sentence.

One name.

And a photograph.

The message said:

“The boy found the note. Now you’ll never find the rest.”

Below it was a picture.

A picture of our house.

Taken just minutes ago.

My blood ran cold.

Because whoever sent it wasn’t watching us from far away.

They were close.

Very close.

And then Jerry whispered:

“Mom…”

I looked at him.

He pointed toward the stadium entrance.

“Isn’t that the man from our house?”

I turned.

And my heart stopped.

Because standing at the exit…

Watching us…

Was the person who had been hiding the truth all along.

To be continued…
