PART 3 – Victor Finally Entered Their Lives Face to Face, Claiming He Came to End the Fear, but His Explanation Exposed a Betrayal Far Closer

NOTE: This part brings Victor into the story directly and complicates the family’s assumptions. Emma discovers that several people have lied, and the real danger may come from someone much closer than she expected.

Victor arrived the next morning.

He did not force his way inside.

He stood on the front porch with his hands visible and waited for Emma to open the door.

Daniel stood behind her.

Sarah was upstairs with Lily.

Two police officers were parked across the street.

Emma opened the door only a few inches.

“Why are you here?”

Victor looked older than the man in the photographs.

“I want to talk.”

“You've been watching my family.”

“Yes.”

“You photographed my baby.”

“Yes.”

Daniel stepped forward.

Emma held up her hand.

Victor continued.

“I know how that sounds.”

“It sounds exactly like what it is.”

He nodded.

“I understand.”

“Then leave.”

“I can't.”

“Why?”

“Because someone is using my name to frighten you.”

Emma stared at him.

“What?”

Victor handed her a folder.

She did not take it.

“Open it.”

Daniel picked it up instead.

Inside were copies of messages.

The same messages Emma had received.

Victor's name appeared on several of the documents.

But the phone numbers did not belong to him.

Daniel looked at the police officers.

“This could be fabricated.”

Victor nodded.

“It could.”

Emma asked, “Then why should I believe you?”

“You shouldn't.”

The answer surprised her.

Victor looked directly at her.

“You shouldn't trust me simply because I tell you the truth now. You should verify everything.”

Emma opened the folder.

Inside were financial records, photographs, and reports from years earlier.

Victor explained that he had indeed worked with Emma's father.

He admitted that the surveillance system had been created by their company.

He admitted that he had used it improperly.

But he denied harming the family.

“I wanted Michael back.”

Emma asked, “Where is he?”

“I don't know.”

“Then what have you been looking for?”

“The information your father kept.”

“Why?”

“Because someone has been using the old network again.”

Daniel frowned.

“What network?”

“The same one your father thought he destroyed.”

Victor explained that several people had retained access.

One of them had been close to Emma's father.

Someone who understood the family's routines.

Someone who knew where the cameras had been installed.

Someone who knew which records were hidden.

Emma remembered her mother's photograph.

“Was it my mother?”

Victor looked down.

“No.”

“Then who?”

Victor hesitated.

“That is what I came here to help you find.”

Sarah came downstairs carrying Lily.

The baby was asleep.

Victor looked at her.

For the first time, his expression softened.

“She looks like your father.”

Emma stiffened.

“You knew him well?”

“Better than I should have.”

Sarah placed Lily in Emma's arms.

Victor said quietly, “Your father was not a hero.”

Emma replied, “I know.”

“He made terrible decisions.”

“I know.”

“But he tried to correct them.”

Emma looked at him.

“Did he save Michael?”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

“Because he realized Victor's enemies would use the child.”

Victor paused.

“And because he discovered that someone else wanted the child too.”

Emma asked, “Who?”

Victor didn't answer.

Instead, he asked Sarah about the old recording.

Sarah looked at Emma.

Victor said, “There was a second tape.”

“How do you know?”

“Because I recorded it.”

Emma stared at him.

“You were there?”

“Yes.”

Victor explained that after their partnership collapsed, Emma's father secretly contacted him.

They met once.

Their father told Victor that someone within their circle had stolen access credentials.

Victor agreed to help expose that person.

But before they could meet again, Emma's father died.

Victor assumed he had been betrayed.

Only years later did he realize someone else had manipulated both men.

Emma asked the obvious question.

“Who?”

Victor looked at her.

“Your father's lawyer.”

Sarah frowned.

“Mr. Bennett?”

Victor nodded.

“He handled the company records.”

Emma remembered him.

Mr. Bennett had attended their father's funeral.

He had comforted their mother.

He had helped settle the estate.

He had been trusted by everyone.

Victor said, “He had access to the archive.”

Daniel looked at Emma.

“That explains the financial records.”

Sarah whispered, “And the cameras.”

Victor nodded.

“He could have restored the system.”

Emma's phone vibrated.

Unknown number.

A photograph appeared.

Mr. Bennett entering the workshop.

Taken that morning.

Emma showed Victor.

He stared at it.

“He knows you're here.”

The lights suddenly went out.

Lily began crying.

Daniel moved toward the hallway.

Victor stopped him.

“Don't.”

A noise came from the kitchen.

Something struck the floor.

The police rushed inside.

Nobody was there.

But the back door stood open.

A small object lay near the doorway.

It was Emma's father's old watch.

Emma recognized it immediately.

Her father had worn it the night he died.

She picked it up.

A piece of paper was attached.

YOU WERE TOLD TO PROTECT THE WRONG PERSON.

Emma stared at Sarah.

“What does that mean?”

Sarah looked terrified.

Then their mother appeared at the top of the stairs.

She had heard everything.

“Emma,” she said, “there is something else you need to know.”

Emma looked up.

Her mother slowly descended.

“Your father did not hide Michael because Victor was dangerous.”

Victor looked at her sharply.

Their mother continued.

“He hid Michael because the people hunting Victor had already infiltrated our family.”

Emma's stomach tightened.

“Who?”

Her mother shook her head.

“I never knew.”

Victor stepped forward.

“You knew enough.”

Their mother looked at him.

“You promised you would never come back.”

“I had to.”

“You've put them in danger.”

“They were already in danger.”

Emma shouted, “Stop!”

Everyone fell silent.

She held Lily closer.

“I am done listening to half-truths.”

She looked at Victor.

“You said my father trusted you.”

“Yes.”

She looked at her mother.

“You said Dad ordered you to hide Michael.”

“Yes.”

Then she looked at Sarah.

“And you knew about the room.”

Sarah nodded.

Emma's voice broke.

“Everyone knew something except me.”

No one answered.

Then Daniel spoke.

“Not everyone.”

Emma looked at him.

He pulled his phone from his pocket.

“I found something.”

He had been searching the photographs while everyone argued.

One image showed a meeting in the workshop.

Victor.

Emma's father.

Mr. Bennett.

And another person.

Daniel enlarged the photograph.

The fourth person's face became visible.

Emma stopped breathing.

It was her mother.

But beside her stood someone else.

Someone Emma knew.

Someone who had been in her house only days earlier.

Someone who had held Lily.

Sarah whispered the name.

“Uncle Thomas.”

The man Emma had trusted since childhood was in the photograph.

And suddenly the entire story changed.
